  • At 22:00, I'm pretty annoyed about this. We aren't projected to run out of any essential resources in any meaningful way anytime soon. "Deforestation" is a thing we hear about a lot in some third world countries, but today there's more trees on Earth than any other time in recorded history. The idea of "climate change" being a problem is not only dubious at best, but raises a lot of concerns that contradict the narrative. Supposing global warming is real (and there's a lot to indicate it's not), is that bad? Are we at the perfect temperature for the world to be at? It's hard to think a warmer planet is bad for the population when winter is dramatically more deadly than summer to the world population. And while some areas could fast sweeping changes that lead to agricultural issues, other areas will suddenly have far more viable options. I forget the exact figure, but the treeline towards the north pole was recorded to be 80km further up. Now it's too cold to grow trees up there. In fact most of Canada and Russia, massive swaths of land, are uninhabitable from the cold. But this is all assuming global warming were real, which again the data just doesn't indicate (beyond how some will say "97% consensus" not realizing that's a fabricated number that doesn't match the reality of the situation. Or acting like millions will die because sea levels rise a couple of feet over hundreds of years. As if they can't move back off a few dozen feet from a coastline over their lifetime and drown in the new puddle depth of water at their doorstep. All while millions of square kilometers are gradually made dramatically more viable and fertile for development.

  • I think more than anything we're facing what would be considered a technological extinction. We'll reach a point where we don't go any further because we're more concerned about staying alive than progressing society. Any time a society is under a lot of stress it remains stagnant and even sometimes regresses.

  • hope you all have a nice week, wanted to let you know that Jesus loves you and died for you. you might think of this as annoying and you’ve seen it a lot, but it’s more than that. those who share this are happy with Christ and believe in eternal life and happiness. they want you to be a part of that too, and so do i. you can have your own opinion and i respect it and you can ignore this and that’s fine. stay safe. i believe in you. in whatever you want to do. God has not left you, and never will. again, Jesus Christ loves you so much. He is willing to heal you and anyone else no matter what they’ve done. He has died for us and proved that He is the Christ, Savior, and Protector.

  • Software Engineer and Enthusiast: The problem with AI, as I see it, is very similar to Elon Musk's opinions on AI... If we use AI to make stuff easier for ourselves like we usually do with programming. We can risk creating an AI that's supposed to look out for us in every way, kind of like you see in movies... And that AI can in around a millisecond decide that Humanity is the biggest threat to humanity, which will result in the AI going full-on Skynet on us. Of course, this could be avoided easily, by just making sure that the AI will never explicitly nor implicitly take the life of a human... But, that could easily be overwritten if the AI programmes itself, or the AI just makes a decision without looking (predicting) far enough into the future and implicitly causing the death of a human. The Good Place Season 4 actually displays very well how one's actions can implicitly 'cause the suffering of others, even if it is 100 years in the future... This is what I think could happen if we go too far with AI... Having AI to assist us with grocery lists, looking up stuff on Google, etc... That is in my opinion as far as we should go until we know more. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk XD Sorry for any grammar or otherwise language mistakes, English is not my first language... But I think a lot of people would get what I'm saying. Of course, this is just one man's opinion. I know very little of the technical details of AI, since I've never personally worked with AI.

  • So, the cloud caused by a 1 kilometer object impact would last "months or years" If one of the 90 % detected space objects was on collision course we would be warned months in advance. The facts are quite different. But the narrator is just speaking what's written on paper. The effects of an impact (1) would last hundreds or thousands of years. The predictability of impacts months in advance is "dream". Dream on.

  • It's likely that climate change can destroy trillions of dollars and put entire cities under water, and kill a few billion. The idea that it will wipe out the last few inhabitants of hearth is laughable to me. By the time it will have wiped out even half of humanity, most of society will have shut down and nature will be in a recovering state. It'll be chaos and there will starvation, but the earth has faced disasters thousands of times worse and still recovered.

  • Good video but the problem isn't "overpopulation". That's like some Malthusian eugenicist BS. The problem is distribution of those resources, in countries like the US we consume 20x more than Global South countries, most of it we throw away. We have plenty of resources to go around to keep everyone alive and sustained and comfortable, we just don't have an economic or political system that allows effective or equal distribution of those resources. To fix this you have to radically alter those systems in order to fix the kinds of damage we're doing to the biosphere of Earth. Again -- it has nothing to do with too many people. It has to do with the way we structure societies so unequally
