Here it is friends: the new adventure we've been dreaming and saving for since we first met 8 years ago. We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international travels. We cannot wait to have a place to call our own!! Sharing our first days of life up at our cabin in the woods 🌲
Looking forward to all of the home renovations and cabin improvements we'll be tackling this winter!

How Did We Get Here?
Abandoning our Van in Africa
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! But after nearly 6 months, we realized that our dreams of continuing van life across North America in our new van build were not a current reality with the state of the world. So, we've found ourselves pursuing something we've dreamed of since we first got together 8 years ago... a cabin in the woods 😊
Tour the renovations we've done to our self converted sprinter van:
VAN TOUR after 2 years living in our TINY HOUSE on wheels
What's in Our Camera Bag?
Who are we?
We're Eamon and Bec, a Toronto-based couple who live full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! SUBSCRIBE for wanderlust travel, behind the scenes of what it's really like to live in a van, and videos all about the yummy vegan food we make + eat! VAN LIFE COUPLE.
Our goal here is to inspire you to chase after your own dreams however big (or small... tiny homes anyone?) they may be! We hope to create a community of like-minded, positive individuals who will grow to love and support one another on their own journeys.

  • Just happened upon your site the other day. Sorry never checked out your van stories. I am finding this journey with you quite enjoyable. Both of you are delightful as well as Bob and I admire how hard working you are. And your upbeat spirits make it a joy to tag along for the ride. Here in my comfy little house in Montana where winter has just begun to introduce herself again I will enjoy cheering you on and sharing your endeavors. My prayers are with you as you build your new life😻

  • Sandra Westley I absolutely agree Don’t move the stove, you only run the stove when’s it’s cold, and by then it will be dark so no views, it’s where it is to centrally positioned to heat all the rooms, you want to sit round a lovely log fire in the winter, so who wants to huddle in a corner.

  • Take it one project at a time. We took over a family cottage 20+ years ago. We've done a foundation, bathroom, roof (twice), windows, plumbing, insulated vinyl siding, and now tackling electrical. The most recent addition was replacing an vintage 70s fireplace with an Osburn Woodstove.

  • Congratulations on your new home. My suggestion to you would be live in it a while before making the "big" changes, and before you make a grand kitchen I would suggest my favorite kitchen is at our cabin it is small, some would call it an efficiency kitchen about nine foot by under eleven foot. Here is a link to a cool old film the talks about "a step saving kitchen" It was fun to watch and gave me some ideas for our cabin Good luck with finishing it out.

  • Since you mentioned that some people who had lived in that house are watching your videos, please keep in mind there may be emotional attachment to some of the stuff you're throwing out. It's easy enough to edit out words like "crap" and "junk" (unless it really is junk) when you're talking about discarding existing house materials. There's bound to be a ton of memories in that old place.

I got your van plan and hoped to create a smaller version of the same, that may not be possible in a 148” wb but either way come spring I HOPE to be on the road! If we are allowed out of the states by then, Canada is on my short list! Yes, I’ll help clear land! So when you two put the call out expect it will happen!

Anyway, whatever you do, gotta do it up to code if you want resell (and be safe as well).

  • New subscriber. Partner and I just moved to middle of no where in East Coast of Canada. Had the same idea, "we don't want to spend another lockdown in a apartment in city" . in your case the Van. This was a perfect channel to stumble on. I'm glad we're not the only ones who found the process stressful in this climate. We're also getting a bunch of projects in before the cold winter and new pup end of month ! Excited to see how your cabin life turns out !
