Definitely agree that there was potential for things to go bigger with the bridge - I actually just threw together a mashup of it with Green Light by Lorde to see how it'd sound with an uptempo instrumental that hits a big drop and it definitely makes the song a lot more euphoric - but also agree that it was a really nice choice on her part to keep it soft/dreamy. Adds a quiet resignation that really resonates. Awesome vid!

I think she stayed pretty reserved at the end because the whole song (from the breathy/soft voice, lyrics and even the cinematography) she is showing vulnerability. It wouldn't make much sense to end in a big bang because the point of the song is to talk about how she's still in love with someone who has already moved on.

The song is directed at that niche market and resonates with them mostly so they download on mass. The melody is extremely basic (mirrored by her playing a child's keyboard in the video). The melody has no memorable appeal or presence, but her voice is hauntingly vulnerable and lonely. Adele's been writing broken relationship songs for years. It's an easy win if you know how to do it. Well done to her for not writing another dizzy, silly love song.
