  • This was an incredibly challenging video to make. The challenge came with getting the Navy to agree to the interview in the first place, then successfully navigating the interview without it being shut down. In the end, everyone was super professional and it was a really fun topic to learn about! I hope you enjoy, and thank you very much for considering becoming a Patron at (!

    • Whats funny is it's not just 20,000 leagues that Verne totally predicted the future, but his space travel one, US launched a rocket (bullet in the book) to get to the moon, from Florida too haha He had his finger on technology pulse for sure, it's like living in 2400 and seeing star trek predict all the current warp drive tech

    • Stupid science Science doesn't know Every second the Sun emits billions billions billions ^ billion lightning 0,1 voltage create sunlight, 1 positron + suck 1 electron -- create lightning 0,1 voltage. Science poisoning the world is the solar system rotating inertia. Children alsoknow that inertia doesn't cause A wheel to spin forever. Positron + and electron -- rotate very rapidly after 4, 6 billion years of creating the Sun ' s core, so the core of the Sun rotates very quickly like A super large electric turbine that produces super large electrical energy, Every second the Sun emits 4,1million tons of electricity create sunlight, sunlight moves the circle back to its original position after 8 hours, so pushes the 8 planet to rotate in order

  • What a waste of time. If it's really that hard for him to do the interview, just say they aren't allowed to do it full stop. Spending the whole time acting like somebody is trying to trip him up with simple straight forward questions about things that are general knowledge was pathetic. In the end, he basically said nothing. Obviously he can't go into specifics, but acting all cagey when discussing the general theory of sonar and it's application was laughable.

  • BD is an easy equation to figure out, it's also easily changed with and acoustic screecher. Basically, listen to the range, then send screechers that cancel said waves, this will effectively create multiple shadow zones.

  • There was a pretty good video game in the 70s called Harpoon, in which you were in charge of a US Naval Carrier group including submarines. I definitely remember the it teaching about how your ship sonar would bend and work in concentric circles. The thermocline effect was also described as was those acoustic corridors. I have to say that Destin's explanation was way more clear... :) . But in the game you can also drop a mic on a line between those layers by deploying a helicoptor on ASW duty. Also interesting that the only pickups they discussed were the ones on the hull, I'm sure the SSN-21 Seawolf sub game back in 94 you could deploy a towed acoustic array which would give more isolation from the submarine's internal noises as well as another more distant audio pickup to help triangulate.

  • Most Sonar tech is classified. What is really cool is physically seeing the sonar dome up close. The line only means possible contact. What it sounds like and classification is what could mean life or death. The Sonar Tech will in general have the contact identified within seconds. FYI: You are not going to use active sonar to tail a mysterious craft lol.

    • "Most Sonar tech is classified." Except the ones Soviets used. After collapse of Soviet Union many submariners left to their homelands, now free and independent countries, and as they gave their oath to keep secrets to the country that did not exist anymore they weren't legally bonded. All those secrets came out. My colleague at 90's was ex submariner who told me lot about acoustic coating which was secret at Soviet era. It is not secret anymore, everyone can google it...

Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
